Works for the Green Heart Fair

Portfolio

Finding Barrambin is a series of public artworks and performances created by final year undergraduate students from QUT’s School of Creative Practice. Comprised of four major visual artworks, a suite of performances and many other media and activities, together the presentation at Green Heart Fair aims to immerse spectators in the significant space of Victoria Park/Barrambin - allowing them to come to better know that Country and feel more ‘present’ in that place now and in the future.

The project features three art installations: Returning, Always Has Been, Always Will Be, & Historical Contours of Barrambin. A further artwork The Perennial Land helps link these works together. Accompanying these three installations are live interactive performances (Sky / Land / The Paint Project), a website, a film, writing and poetry that invites spectators to reflect upon the natural beauty, historical and Indigenous relevance of the land.

Returning

Historical Contours

Always Has Been

‘Returning’ is a site-specific installation designed for the ‘hero’ jacaranda tree in Barrambin. Hanging from the tree will be a series of abstract mobiles created using endemic ironbark veneer that reflect the shape of the Indigenous stitch canoe.

Always Has Been

Historical Contours

Always Has Been

‘Always Has Been, Always Will Be’ is a flock of silver wire armatures abstracted to suggest the shape of Noisy Miners in flight positioned along the Billabong’s edge.

Historical Contours

Historical Contours

Historical Contours

‘Historical Contours of Barrambin’ is a speculative and interactive installation of an unmown line of grass punctuated by islands of native grasses.

Perennial Land

Live Performances

Live Performances

The Perennial Land is a site-specific installation comprised of banners hung along a line of blue gum trees in Barrambin. The work draws upon, and connects past, present and future elements of earth, wind, and water at the site.
